LyicsAt midnight, Lo! a cry was hear'd,
By all the virgin band-
Awake from sleep, shake off your dread,
Before the Bridegroom stand.
Then all the virgins quickly rose,
And soon they look'd about;
But greatest horror siezed those,
Whose lamps had then gone out.
Alas! the foolish then could cry,
"O give us of your oil;"
We've none to spare, the wise reply,
The foolish then recoil.
They then were left and were too late;
For soon the bridegroom came;
The doors were then against them shut;
Without they stand in shame.
Jesus our Bridegroom now doth call,
And will you hear his word;
Forsake your sin, the world and all,
To meet your Saviour Lord?
Your lamps must burn, your lights must shine,
To prove that you are wise;
Your words, your life must be divine;
Your thoughts to God must rise.
And when you from your graves shall wake
To see the Bride-groom's face;
To a bless'd mansion he will take,
And give you all a place.
There all the virgins wise shall meet,
And be forever bless'd;
They'll sing and feast, rejoice and sit,
And ever be at rest.
