Lyics

The man of riches fareth well-
With pride and scorn his heart doth swell;
He disregards the beggar's state,
And thinks not on his future fate.

The beggar lingers out his days-
He spends his time in thanks and praise;
At last he dies and soars to rest;
In Abram's bosom he is blest.

The rich man he doth also die,
In hell he then doth raise his cry,
To mitigate his awful pain-
But all his wishes are in vain.

The proud, the wicked and the great;
The humble christian they do hate-
They live in fashion and in lust,
But all must mingle with the dust.

The christian begs and prays to God,
And bears afliction's painful rod;
In patience he doth run his race,
And with his Jesus finds his place.

The beggar then is highly thron'd,
And by the Angels kindly own'd;
May I despise the present shame,
And glory in eternal fame.
