Lyics

OUR father's through a desert land
Were kept, preserv'd by God's own hand,
While going to the promis'd rest,
Where all the faithful should be blest.

But they forsook Egyptian pride,
And fleshly lusts they laid aside;
And put their trust in Israel's God,
And lean'd upon their staff and rod.

Like them I have a promis'd place,
Like them I'll start to run my race;
Like them I'll roam the desert through,
And meet with them in glory too.

I am a pilgrim here below,
Following Jesus as I go;
No store nor barn I here can have;
I, all the world behind me leave.

Sometime I meet with dangers round,
Sometimes no bread nor water found;
But God's my helper, he my shield,
A plenty then his kindness yield.

When faith is strong my foes are weak,
My God will not my soul forsake;
His grace is strong to guard my way,
To lead me to eternal day.
