LyicsThis sabbath day I come to prove
A holy rest-a taste of love;
I come to worship at thy feet,
My Jesus and his saints to meet.
My wearied limbs I prostrate now,
And on thy footstool humbly show
The wonders of thy gracious hand;
A monument of grace I stand.
This cessation of worldly care,
For all mankind thou didst prepare,
To give his thought an ample scope,
And gain thy love-immortal hope.
But now a more celestial rest
Remains for all that Christ has blest;
They cease from sin and all distress
And dwell in him, their right'ousness.
Their grief and labor soon will cease,
Then God will give them lasting peace;
To rest a day which ne'er will end;
An endless day in glory spend.
Soon God will take us home to dwell,
In everlasting songs to tell
The sabbath of our rest is come,
And we in our eternal home.
