LyicsFarewell carnal pleasure,
I leave you behind;
Now the richest treasure,
In Christ I do find
My sporting and singing
I've laid all aside-
And now I am running
Unto Jesus' side.
I wander a stranger,
I'm tempted, forlorn;
Surrounded with danger,
My enemies scorn;
Now Satan he rages
And roars all his might;
But Jesus engages
To save from his spite.
Though I am no stronger
Than nothing, alone,
Yet Jesus no longer
Will leave me to moan;
My strength now increases,
He'll bless me always;
His love and his graces
Shall crown all my days.
His word and his spirit
Doth lead me along;
Tho' I have no merit
I'll raise him a song;
He doth still deliver
His goodness I'll trust,
And be a believer
That save me he must.
My Jesus and Saviour
I'll follow below;
His word and his favour
Will guide me I know-
Tho' Devils should haunt me,
And tempt my poor heart,
yet they shall not daunt me
Nor make me depart.
My soul's now on fire,
And glory's in view;
My heart now inspire,
Thy glory to shew-
And never forsake me
Till trials are o'er;
O then thou will take me
Where pain is no more.
O there in full raptures
I'll raise the new song,
Where Angelic statures
And beauty belong;
There in that bright, glory
I'll always be blest,
And tell all the story,
Of Angels at rest.
