Lyics

Israel the desert trod,

Sustain'd by power divine,

While wondrous mercy mark'd the road

With many a mystic sign.

When Moses gave the stroke,

From Horeb's flinty side

Issued a river, and the rock

The Hebrew's thirst supplied.

But O! what nobler themes

Does gospel grace afford!

From Calv'ry spring superior streams--

There hung the smitten Lord!

Of ev'ry hope bereft,

Sinners, to Jesus go;

Behold the Rock of Ages cleft,

And living currents flow.

Here may our spirits bathe,

Here may our joys abound!

Till (pass'd the wilderness and death)

We tread celestial ground.
