Lyics

I would not weep when passing clouds

Obscure life's sum-mer day,

Or when a deeper gloom o'erspreads my ev-er change-ful way;

But through the drea-riest night of gloom

The darkest clouds of care,

Look up to heaven's pure, steadfast light,

And seek for solace there.

I would not weep, though one by one

My earthly visions fade;

Nor backward turn to mourn o'er hopes

Of happiness decayed;

But fix my yearning heart on heaven,

Secure of promis'd bliss

In that blest land-howe'er severe

My sorrows seem in this.

I would not weep, though faithful hearts,

The trusting and the kind,

Should go to seek a higher sphere,

While I am left behind:

But lift my thoughts to that abode,

Where, free from every stain,

Their happy spirits fondly wait

To welcome me again.
