LyicsON Tabor's top the Saviour stood
With Peter, James, and John;
And while he talk'd of Calv'ry there,
His face resplendent shone.
While on his suff'rings he convers'd,
And spoke of griefs to come,
His countenance assum'd a light
Much brighter than the sun.
In dazzling brightness all array'd
Jesus transfigur'd stands,
From heav'n descends the man who gave
To Israel God's commands.
Elijah, too, of burning zeal,
Who did that law restore,
Appear'd with Moses on this mount
And talk'd his suff'rings o'er.
Transported with this glorious scene,
The witnesses exclaim,
'Tis good, Lord, with such guests to dwell:
Here let us still remain.
Three tents with joyful hands we'll raise,
And place them side by side,
For these celestials, and for thee,
And here let us abide.
While thus they spoke, a cloud descends
And takes them from their sight;
But Jesus yet remain with them,
The Father's chief delight.
This is my Son, his voice declares,
Hear him in all he says,
Not Moses nor Elijah now
Shall guide you in my ways.
With joy this more illustrious guide
Henceforth we'll still obey,
Till we behold the glorious light
Of an eternal day.
