Lyics

DESCENDING down into the flood,

We his great suff'rings there behold,

Who in deep waters for us stood,

While floods of wrath upon him roll'd.

And when beneath the waters laid,

Our breath suspended in their womb,

We call to mind how Jesus died,

And buried lay within the tomb.

As from the wat'ry grave we rise

We see him from death's prison freed,

Discharg'd from sin, crown'd with the prize

Of endless life for all his seed.

This sign does to our faith declare

Our part in him who once was dead;

For into death immers'd we are,

And with him buried as our head.

And as the Father's glorious power

Did life eternal to him give,

So by this pledge he makes us sure

That as he lives we'll also live.
