LyicsThat God, who made the worlds on high,
And air, and earth, and sea,
Own as thy God, And to his name
In homage bow the knee.
Let not a shape which hads have wro't
Of wood, or clay, or stone,
Be deemed thy God, nor think him like
Aught thou hast seen or known.
Take not in vain the name of God;
Nor must thou ever dare,
To make thy falsehood pass for truth,
By his dread name to swear.
That day on which he bids thee rest
From toil, to pray and praise,
That day, keep holy to the Lord,
And consecrate its rays.
O may that God, who gave these laws,
Write them on every heart,
That all might feel their living power,
Nor from his paths depart.
