Lyics

When Christ pours out an heav'nly sound,

Of reformation all around,

The saints begin to cry,

Most fervently to God in pray'r,

That every sinner far and near,

May come to Christ or die.

The watchmen too, lift up their voice,

Sinners begin to make a noise,

And tremble at the sound;

They stop and think, repent and mourn,

And unto Jesus Christ return,

And find his grace abound.

While saints praise God, and give him thanks,

New soldiers fill the heav'nly ranks,

And all united say,

That they're determin'd thus to stand,

And fight for Christ, with sword in hand,

While on this earth they stay.

While in the camp we hear their voice,

They take their bounty and rejoice,

And say they'll fight it through;

But by and by their King doth say,

Go forth without the camp and pray,

And bear reproaches too.

The soldiers now with sword and shield,

March forth together in the field,

To meet their enemies;

Lo! What a battle now ensues,

While some do fight with boldness through,

And shout in victory.

But others when they come to fight,

Do turn their backs (which is not right)

And from the battle run;

But soon they find there is a lack,

They have no armour for the back,

And they are overcome.

Some have by jesting turn'd aside,

And some are prisoners of pride,

And some of unbelief;

Wounded and mangled thus they're laid,

Such havoc thus by satan made,

Doth fill our souls with grief.

Let all the soldiers who enlist,

Be valiant here for Jesus Christ,

And then they'll overcome;

For there's such pow'r in Jesus' name,

That not one soldier can be slain,

So long as he fights on.
